The Polar Library

The Geographic Polar Institute “Silvio Zavatti” is equipped with a beautiful polar library, the only specialized bibliographic collection in Italy. Among several books, the Library preserve volumes on polar topics in several languages, coming from all over the world (Alaska, Argentina, England, United States, France, New Zeeland, Australia, Canada, and Japan). Books of the legendary explorers (Amundsen, Cook, Nansen, Scott) and all the publication on Nobile expeditions and on the polar journey of Abruzzi’s Duke are also presents. And then, all the volumes of the Antarctic Bibliography, an Antarctic atlas in Russian language, several folders containing hundreds of pamphlets on polar topics, several volumes of the Geographic Polar Institute Archive, newspaper pieces, photographs album, several books in Inuit language, the handwritten diaries of Silvio Zavatti expeditions, and much more. All the volumes and the books of the Polar Library can be consulted, by previously request through Biblioteche Marche Sud system (http://www.bibliotechemarchesud.it), the access portal to all the libraries of Fermo and Ascoli provinces Currently, the Polar Library is closed due to the 2016 earthquake. It is waiting for a new location.
